Emporikon Athens Hotel History & Logo
The name «Emporikon» is Greek for «commercial» and attests to the building’s bustling market vicinity at the time of its construction in the second half of the 19th century. It functioned as a hotel since its inception, although it fell into disuse and finally abandonment in the early 1960’s. As an exceptional five-storey Art Nouveau and Neoclassical style building, the hotel is being fully restored as a preservationist landmark. The entry and several rooms are exquisitely detailed with wall and ceiling painting fully restored. The original central wooden staircase remains intact, adding to the exquisite atmosphere.
The Emporikon Hotel Athens logo is part of the history of this landmark Athenian building. During the renovation of the hotel we discovered this elegant iron door design that goes back to the beginning of the 20th century.
An A as a Tree; symbolizing prosperity, happiness and strength, as well as beloved international Greek words like Athens, Atlas, Acropolis, Aura and Autography is the center around which the logo develops. Two mirrored E letters; -E for Emporikon and E for Ellada – lean towards the center forming a synthesis decorated with ancient Greek spiral symbols.
The logo of the Emporikon Hotel Athens is connected with the ambience of a historic metropolis and the outgoing spirit of its people and pictures the core of the Emporikon philosophy.
